Induction and Training
Learning the Essentials
Your first five weeks with Radiant Care Homes are designed to help you understand our organisation and approach to childcare. During your induction, you’ll participate in our Radiant Care Homes training programme.
Week 1: Skills to Care – Foundation Training
In your first week, you’ll complete the initial stage of our Skills to Care training at one of our dedicated training venues. This foundational training introduces you to your role and our core values and vision. Modules include:
- Recording and Reporting
- Health and Safety
- First Aid
- Risk Management
- Key Working
- Safer Handling of Medication
Hands-On Learning
Weeks 2–4: Field-Based Training
Weeks two, three, and four are focused on practical, field-based learning in one of our residential children’s homes.
- Week 2: Shadow experienced residential staff to understand the day-to-day workings of our homes.
- Weeks 3 & 4: Transition into the new worker shift pattern, taking a hands-on role under supervision to deepen your practical understanding.
Skills to Care: Advanced Training
Week 5: Advanced Skills Development
In your fifth week, you’ll complete the second stage of our Skills to Care training programme. This week builds on the knowledge you’ve gained, covering topics such as:
- Legislation Awareness
- Safeguarding 360
- Attachment Theory
- PRICE Accredited Modules: Behaviour Management and Holistic Approaches to Intervention
Ready to Start
Week 6: Integration into Your Role
By the sixth week, you’ll have completed all required training to comply with our Residential Support Worker training policy for one year. At this stage, you’ll fully integrate into the residential home, joining the regular shift pattern alongside your Radiant Care Homes colleagues.
Note: Depending on your start date, your first and second weeks may swap, with shadowing occurring in the first week and Skills to Care training in the second.

Each Radiant Children’s Home features a bespoke therapeutic training package, developed in partnership with experts at New Ways Safeguarding and delivered by our in-house Programme Psychologists. Tailored to each home’s specialism, topics include:
- Attachment Theory
- Childhood Trauma
- Therapeutic Play
- Sensory Processing
A Flexible, Blended Approach
Our training combines classroom learning, video facilitation, and online courses, catering to all learning styles. Regular reviews by experienced trainers ensure our methods are up-to-date and practical.
